The vision of the initiative is to create a more equitable, just and open region in which everyone feels safe, valued and respected.
Safe. Valued. Respected. Words that represent what we all strive for and aspire to in our lives. However, racism plays a role in compromising these values for us all. To address racism, The Saint Paul Foundation launched the Facing Race We're All in This Together initiative in the East Metro area (including Dakota, Ramsey and Washington counties in Minnesota). The initiative is multi-year and focuses on addressing racism at the individual and institutional levels.
The Facing Race We're All in This Together initiative meets people and institutions where they are, gives them tools to discuss issues of race and racism and moves them to take action to end racism and discrimination. The initiative promotes a new type of conversation on race that recognizes, respects and values difference. By re-focusing conversations on race in this way we hope to move beyond old, frustrating conversations that frequently focus on blame and guilt.
